Cartoon Profile Picture on Facebook?

Recently many people on Facebook have changed their profile pictures to promote awareness about child abuse, which is great except for the fact that the act in of it self does nothing. In fact I believe many are simply following the trend to make it appear as though they support a worthy cause. The fact that National Child Abuse Prevention Month is actually in April makes me question the whole purpose of this Facebook campaign. According to the Daily Mail, some rumours are suggesting this “campaign is actually a smokescreen for paedophiles hoping to identify young children.” Apparently the entire campaign is unofficial as no one has claimed responsibility, which encourages Facebook users to change their profile until December 6^th.

It would be great if people actually donated money to a legitamate organization that promotes awareness on this issue as opposed to posting a cartoon character on their profile.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

So I need not say that I love Christmas, because it goes without saying. Something that I find is synonymous with Christmas and was always a staple growing up was watching A Muppet Family Christmas. Recently the Muppets produced some Christmas music videos, though they certainly cannot replace the classics, I still find them entertaining. It is quite evident that I have not matured past the age of a six year old.

Novel is coming really slowly

So I have been writing a novel for quite some time now, far too long actually. Although in my defence I have been busy with school full-time. Whenever I want to procrastinate, I work on the novel. I’m only at 150 pages, so it still has a long way to go, assuming I ever finish the bloody thing.

It was the simple things that I will never forget, our drives to St.Malo, our walks in St.Vital Park and how you always wanted to make me laugh. I never wanted to let you go and I still cannot believe that you are gone. I love you and I am thankful you may now rest in peace.

The Good Guy

So I have been looking forward to this movie, The Good Guy, starring Alexis Bledel, Scott Porter, and Bryan Greenberg since last year, and for some reason it never came to theaters in my neck of the woods. Now I hear it is set to be released on DVD on June 22nd, and I’m feeling a little miffed here. I like catching movies in the theater, and it’s my favorite genre of movie, too. I am not impressed. Oh well here’s a trailer for the movie if you haven’t seen it yet.

Favorite Pride and Prejudice Scene

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and as one would come to expect from an Austen fan my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. Many movies exist, though in my opinion the BBC did the best job of recounting the tale and with the best actors, too! I have a favorite scene that I have watched countless of times, so I thought I would share that most favored scene.

Habs win 5-2 victory agaisnt Pens

I could not be happier at this moment. The Habs- the underdog-the team that no body ever expected to make it this far has beat out the Pens to secure a spot in the finals for a shot at the Stanley Cup, which just so happened to be the last Canadian team to win in 1993. We are long overdue, nearly two decades overdue, so I have my fingers crossed that the cup will make it on Canadian soil.

They beat out the Penguins in a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night in Game 7 of the NHL’s second playoff round. This has proven to be an interesting season, one with many surprises first when they won against Washington, who happened to be one of the top NHL teams, and now with the Pens. I’m hoping for nothing less than the Cup, and here’s hopping my favourite underdog can deliver.

Mexican Bishop Claims Internet to Blame for Child Sexual Abuse

The Washington Post published an article on Friday about the child sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church and discusses how a prominent Roman Catholic bishop in Mexico is laying blame on the internet and TV.

Bishop Felipe Arizmendi stated that “If on television and on the Internet and in so many media outlets there is pornography, it is very difficult to stay pure and chaste.”

So, rather than take responsibility for committing terrible sins by sexually abusing children, he decides to suggest, rather unconvincingly, that these outlets cause the priest to sexually abuse children. This is sick and pathetic. What excuse has he for those priests who sexually abused children in the 1970s and 1980s when the internet was not available? I am really truly appalled with the Catholic Church.

What little respect I had for the institution is lost with such a blatant excuse of their deplorable behaviour when they have only themselves to blame. They should be held accountable for their actions, and not be above the law. Giving any creditability to this opens the door to all child sexual abusers to excuse their behaviour because of the excessive sexual nature of the internet and TV today. Shame on you, Arizmendi, for even suggesting that the blame lies anywhere but on those catholic priests.
